VIRUS ON SERVER

By rauld69 ·
I want to know if there is a manual way to remove a virus from a server w/out using a utility? If I use a utility what utility should I use? Norton is not.

There are instruction on Symantec or other anti-virus vendor show how to remove the virus manually. However, this method remove te virus from spreading out. it is almost impossible to remove all infected files. Should try to scan virus throughly after removing it manually. I found that Norton for Corporate 7.x is better than older version 5.x

It really depends on the virus (what type, what is infected etc.) If you know what virus it is look at www.symantec's SARC (AntiVirus Research Center) in their virus encylopedia. Some viruses have a specific utility for manual removal found on most major AV vendors sites (as with the I Love you virus).
Answer #1 is right with the big difference between Norton 5.0 and Norton Corp. Edition 7.5.
Just remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure...
Regular scans and active checking is the probally the best practice...

G'Luck! SFO
