Virus Scan Solution

By Benjamin ·
Hello all. I am looking for a virus scan solution for my home PCs. I am currently (unhappily I may add) using McAfee Virus Scan with the additional McAfee Firewall. I don't like the way McAfee will bring the PC to a grinding halt when it scans files prior to opening. I have messed around with the settings, etc. but have now decided after 3 years of using that I want something new. I am using McAfee Virus Scan online. So, I would like to canvas everyone out there for what YOU would recommend and why. I am looking for something that won't slow down my system and just do what it is supposed to do. Thank you very much in advance. All the best!

I'm using eTrust InoculateIT at my workplace. I run a scheduled scan daily - there is a slight slowdown but it is not very noticeable. It is easy to use and configure, but is doesn't come with a firewall.

At home, I use AVG free edition. There is a more noticeable slowdown when scanning, but not enough to bring the PC to a grinding halt.

There's a couple for you to consider. Good Luck

I thank you very much for your answer! I was about ready to purchase E Trust until I found Nod 32. So thank you very much. I appreciate your help.

I have never like McAfee myself.

Currently my computers run Symantec, AVG, and Etrust from CA.

Thank you for your answer. As per my previous rating, I would have used Etrust's product. So, I thank you for your help!

I use PC-Cillin (purchased)
http://www.trendmicro.com/en/products/desktop/pc-cillin/evaluate/overview.htm
Because I got tired of norton antivirus mainly due to the amount of resources it took up and performance issues. They also let you do a free online scan that will detect and remove virus from your pc. Its worked great for me.

Thank you very much for your answer! My father in law uses PC- Cillin and it is too intrusive for my liking but I thank you very much for your answer though!

I am running a combination of AVG and Norton, the Norton slows the system a bit, but not to a complete halt, and with the AVG the slowdown is even less noticable.

Thank you for your answer! AVG looks pretty interesting but Norton is too much like McAfee so would not be what I was looking for. Thank you for your answer though!

A big thank you to everyone who has responded. I have yet to rate the answers because I wanted to get people's opinion on a product I discovered which I am most likely going to purchase. It is called Nod32. Web site: http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm

From what I can tell, this software will pretty much fill my needs. I was about ready to purchase AV software from CA when I came across this link in Google.

Does anyone have any thoughts?
