VPN and map drive

By David__ ·
I am trying to solve a problem with VPN and mapping a drive. The server is Windows 2000 server. I have tried with multiple clients from multiple sites and get similar results and different user accounts, win 2000 and XP clients.
I can successfully authenticate and get registered on the network. The problem starts when I try to map a drive with net use, it asks for a password and then reports a bad user name or password.

Please help, very desperate.
David

Are you entering the full user name for the domain when asked for username and password for network resources? (i.e. DOMAIN\username)

Remember this is only when accessing network resouces, not when logging on to the domain.

Hope this helps.

I've had a similar problem a few years back. The user, after logging on to the network the user could ping the different network resources by IP address. But a ping to the resource name, would always time out. This made it impossible to get to any network shares.

What we discovered, was that...
1) the remote user needs to logon to their workstation using the exact same credentials as the VPN domain credentials, the same credentials for using the Dial-up/VPN connection, and the same credentials for logging on to the network. Three places, the credentials must be identical. (this was for using a shared printer)

2) In the configuration of the VPN, it was important to make certain that WINS and/or DNS was used from the network. This would ensure that resource names were linked to the IP address.

Try this out, hope it helps.
