VPN Client Can't Access One Server

By frankaf ·
I have a user who connects to our network from her home PC (XPPro). She gets a VPN connection and can access the network, except for one server - our email server. Our server has the same name as her ISP's email server. I was thinking of using a fully qualified name with domain in a HOSTS or LMHOSTS file.

It looks like it resolves the name to an external IP address which is not accessible after the VPN connection is active. LMHOST looks like it should work. You might alos want to try unchecking the box Use Default Gateway on Remote Network, it's in the VPN connection properties on the clients side.

This confirmed something that I suspected the problem to be. It also turned out that the user upgraded from Windows 2000 to Windows XP with an old version of the upgrade CD that was also not the proper CD for the PC (The PC had an oem install of W2K and the user used a MS release upgrade CD, possibly even a Beta copy).
