VPN with dial-up not working

By jsarinana ·
On a new Windows 98 SE
Created dialup account with my ISP and it works fine.

Added Microsoft VPN adapter and rebooted

Created VPN with the right IP and login which works fine on my Windows 2000 computer.
I get error:
The Microsoft Dial-Up Adapter is in use or not responding properly.
Disconnect other connections and then try again.
If this problem persists, shut down and restart your computer.
? HELP ?

Try going into the properties of the connection and ensuring you are using the correct vpn example: pptp. If so then remove adapter and re-install so the bindings are resored.

Just a thought.---Make sure that the W98 machine has Virtual Private Networking installed. Go through the Add/Remove Programs> Windows Setup tab> Communications> Virtual Private Networking.

Besides the Microsoft Virtual Private Networking adapter(which installs PPTP), W98 also needs a Dial-up Adapter #2 (vpn support) installed, and can only logon to a machine with properly configured SERVER software running as the OS. Windows 2000 Pro can logon to another Windows 2000 Pro machine even if itis not running Server.

Good Luck
