VXDLDR(06) during hardware Setup

by TheChas In reply to VXDLDR(06) during hardwar ...

VXD errors during setup usually point to a RAM problem.

How much RAM is installed?

There is a bug in the W9X / Me code that can cause problems if more than 511MB of RAM is installed.

Even if RAM is not the problem, make sure that you clean out the System32 folder and sub-folders of VXD files before trying to re-install Windows.
Once a VXD is corrupt, it causes Windows to not be able to recover on it's own.

Sorry I was so slow to rate this one, I don't remember how I finally solved it, but RAM was not the answer. I believe it was your clue about clearing out the System32 folder that did the trick! THANKS!
