W2K and Ports

Hi!

What do you mean ?

Serial ports ?
Paralell ports ?
Network ports ?

I'm guseeing you mean network ports.

This isn't anything you add, but you install a special software that uses a port which clients can connect to.

Ports any software can us is in the range 0-65535.

NT allowed me to add com and lpt ports. I didn't see the same feature in w2k. I finally got w2k to recognize AOL, but on installation, no ports were assigned so that when i get to the screen which asks which port do you want to assign to AOL, nothing is there, not even the mouse port is shown.

AOL allows me to assign a port but the one that is already in w2k is taken by the mouse.

So back to the question, how do I add ports?

Hi again!

Still don't understand quite what you mean.

Have you an account at AOL for dial-up connection ?

So when you install AOL client it wanna know what port to use in order to dial-up to AOL ?

If this is the case just plug your modeminto COM2 if you have mouse on COM1 and windows should recognize new hardware on reboot and just install correct modem drivers.

If this is not the case then I can't understand what port the AOL software is looking for.

I suggest you call AOL support for help, and also check if the AOL software supports w2k.
