W2K+SQL Server hardware upgrade

By monkfishx ·
I'm coming back into my 'day job' in IT after a 2 year break and one of my many tasks is to upgrade a production W2K+SQL Server. I have tried to suggest a new platform may be appropriate, but cant convince them to spend the money. Alas, that's a different issue.

Anyhow, I reckon it needs a boost to 4GB RAM (from 1 GB) and also it could do with a 2nd array to move the transaction logs onto. I'm happy enough with carrying out the physical upgrade in terms of plugging in the components. I am, however, a little concerned with how both SQL & Windows will deal with this new hardware configuration.

Does anyone out have experience of beefing up an exisiting server? Is SQL happy with suddenly finding more memory? Is it complicated to move the trans logs to a different disk.

Thanks in advance
