W2K wkstn in Novell 5 has BSOD at login

By bapril ·
Have 2 W2K wkstns that caused BSOD at their Novell 5 login. Prob went away after a while but found many messages in Evnt Vwr about forced master browser election. Events listed were: Source- Browser with Event ID- 8009 and Source MRxsmb with Event 8005. How can I stop future election conflicts? (BTW, we have no NT/2K servers)

You can set one of the 2k machines to be THE master browser and then no election will be forced.

See the following links

http://windows.about.com/library/weekly/aa080899.htm?iam=dpile&terms=windows+2000+master+browser+enable

or go to the Microsoft and look up Q188001

That was the magic bullet. On a Novell network, there is no need for the election. I set both entries to NO to stop these 2 PCs from participating in the election.
