Web page cannot be displayed

By ed ·
I have a network of 25 PCs running Win98 connected to a WinNT 4 server. Several of the PCs have started getting "page not found" when accessing the Internet using IE. The same web sites can be accessed using Netscape. I have uninstalled IE and reinstalled (IE 6) but with the same results. I have also connected one of the PCs through another network with the same results. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks.

Couple of things that we can check out is that,

1. Set IE as the default browser;

Open Internet Options, click Programs and place a check in the checkbox " Internet Explorer should check ...." Also, try the Reset web settings button there in the window.

2. Check in the connections tab for the default Network connection. If this is missing then you have a problem.

This should help.

Thanks, but IE is set as the default browser and resetting web settings does not solve the problem. The "Default Network Connection" under the Connections tab is grayed out but the connection is through a LAN not dial up or VPN, so you would expect it to be missing.

Definitely looks like an IE problem as PC has access using another program. In IE goto tools -> internet options

Try changing security options to default, for all sites. Check the restricted sites for any of the URLS you are trying to access, to include the server.

Under connections check your LAN setting.

Under browsing -> check USE passive FTP.

Under advanced -> HTTP 1.1 settings ensure both types are checked.

Under advanced -> security I normally check all SSL/TLS to enable all available. (ISP may use one that is not enabled)
