Internet access control

by Fregeus In reply to what does a proxy do exce ...

A proxy server is mostly for Internet access control. Things that the firewall cannot do or would be too demanding to be on one device.

A proxy server can control internet access via user list, user authentication, destination, etc. It can also keep everything in logs for analysis, reports, management. The caching tool is good to keep bandwidth use low.

But if you have no use for Internet access control, then there is no need for a proxy server.
