what does this error mean & where is it

By baden10 ·
When my friends computer is turned on, the Windows 98 goes through the motions all the way to the desktop, then an error bos pops up. It says "cannot locate C:\Windows\NewDot~2.DLL" The \ is supposed to be a backslash but my keyboard must be drunkright now. The problem my friend now has is he cannot get onto the internet. We walked through the steps with verison on the DSL connection and that is not the problem. My question is does anyone know what that error is from, or what application it might be part of so we can uninstall and then re-install. Remember the \ should be a backslash.

Is there a place one can go to look up error codes?

This is what is generally called "Spyware". To prevent this junk from being installed, get Ad-Aware from:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Here are some sites that explain how to get rid of it. (Ad-Aware will probably do it for you)

NewDotNet is installed when you install Kazaa. Yes, it is spyware..and yes, I have deleted it from the registry of a few machines. It should have no impact on accessing the internet though. Being spyware, this app is only responsible for sending your surfing habits to a third party and has nothing to do with connectivity. Have your friend contact his ISP in regards to why he cannot access the internet.
Good luck!

Mike
