What is the going rate to design and imp

I negotiated a deal with an international company to set up a WAN, connecting 8 Latin American sites. I am setting up everything from ground-up, all servers and interconnecting all workstations. What is the going rate as to implementing a project like this?

Architect who designs topology can make anywhere from 100-300 per hour.

Installer can make anywhere from 50-150 per hour.

A very broad range because not all of the details are provided:
What kind of network?
Software support tools involved?Time frame?
Once connected, any tuning needed?

My best guess is you can expect to pay $150 to $225 /hr for design work, $100 to $175 /hr for server and network configuration, and $75 to $125 /hr for installation of equipment and Client (PC) configuration. Don't forget to include third party costs such as Carrier (circuit) setup costs, building access costs, etc., as well as travel costs (assuming there will not be a local installer in all 8 countries.

It sounds like it is too late to talk about $$ for the design and install. Better to think about the constraints you put in the contract for the entire life-cycle. In particular, I'm concerned with your language about the availability and manageability of the final product. I have found the cost associated with WANs is in the life-cycle management, not in the first cost. A team bidding on the WAN should have included all parts of the life-cycle, not just the design and install. If you do not have that covered, I would say you paid too much for your WAN.

The non-commital answer is that a project like this can be priced along several different lines. It could be billed by engagement hours, number of people required to engage, by geography, or even by technology.

And then the question to ask is towhat degree of work will be done when you say "setting everything up." That can mean different things to different people. Does that mean you merely create the plan and give it to someone else to implement? Do you have oversight over the implementation? Do you actually purchase, install, and then bring to production the equipment?

Will you be operating and monitoring equipment on the back-end in terms of a long term contract? (Opportunity to lower front end cost and recover on the back-end.) Any applications involved? Or just infrastructure....?

Lots of variables that factor into pricing and will affect you and any other bidders - if this is a bidding situation.

There are two ways to charge customer.
1. To calculate the total amount you are spending on this project including your time. and add your profit ratio you want to keep.
2. know how much you are counterparts are charging and keep accordingly your prices.
Off the line thought- It is good to take such project for complete life time and charge for that. It is not advisable to take for only Design & Installation. At least I want recommend.
