What Software Monitors Workstation Usage

By joeship ·
I have a client running Novell 3.12 and Windows 95/98 peer to peer networks. Is there any software which will let an administrator oversee what any workstation is doing at a particular time?

Thanks in advance.

NT has performance monitor.
Windows 98 has a cut down version, possibly in the System Tools, or maybe you have to add it through the 'Add Remove Programs', have disk.
Alternatively, there is Netwatcher, in Windows 98 to see connections.
If you want to take control of the machine remotely, then there is 'PC Anywhere'.

Novell 3.12 console lets you see which files each user has open at any time (and of course you can force them to close). This is not exactly the same as 'seeing' their work in a remote control situation. For that, you could install pcAnywhere and practically look over the user's shoulder while you are in another room, or another country.

The Frye Utilities expanded upon Novell's console to let you print reports as well as view such useful info as last logon, files and space in use by any user, etc.
Since I no longer have the Novell server, I cannot test it now.

Novell's Zenworks for Desktops allows you to remote control or remote view the user's desktops, however, I believe you would have to have access to at least 1 Novell 4.11 server. I have inplemeted the full version of the software at my site & it isbeyond fantastic!
