http://www.jidaw.com/certarticles/linuxcerts.html

lists the certs.

if you follow the links to each cert listed, you will find study materials for each listed.

comptia and lpi both have the study guides free download.

the rest are vendor specific, and while both red hat and novell ( the vendors ) are recognised names, unless you know you will be working with thier products you might want to stick with the generic certification.

they both give the required skills, and by not being vendor specific you will be able to understand every distro.
the vendor specific focusses on thier own toolsets ( naturally ) so actually limit your basic grasp of all the tools available across distros.

I would suggest LCPI over CompTIA. While Linux+ is decent, LCPI has 2 levels of testing and it a little more detailed.

I would suggest that no matter the Linux cert, get Network+ certified and Security+ certified.

Linux+ is probably the easiest. I have study materials for it. PM if you want.

Hi Pal,

The only thing i can tell you that, RHCE (RedHat Certified Engineer) is the most respected certification in the industry and i going to give it a hit very recently.

So, if you think about Linux and any thing certification than nothing is like having a RHCE.

Bye For Now.

There are a lot of certification for linux and i believe it has its own strength. But I think RHCE is advisable. The track / approach is straight forward and it gives you and hand on approach of things.

In addition, Redhat flavor of linux is used by a lot of corporate.
