which app is used to open the exe file?

when i downloaded a exe file using IDM ,it always shows a message box like open with ,mistakenly i press the Adobe reader,now all the .exe files are opening with A.reader & shows some error messages,if i uninstall the A.reader all came to normal,but i need to use the Adobe reader tell me some idea???????

Correct File Association

I'm assuming you are on Xp..simple fix..all u do is go to the file that u say won't open correcly..right click on it and find properties...click on properties and where u see open with file..it will have ur program..next to it is the change button..click on that and find the correct program that you want to use..Your good to go...

Or Just right click the file that won't open correctly..click on "open with" and find the program that you want to use from a popup u will get..it will ask if u want to use the web service or select the program from the list...click on select program from the list (second button)...find the correct program you want to use..it will disassociate itself from the wrong program.. Hope i was of some help

Sorry. Wrong, twice. Here is why:

This is an <i>executable</i> file. What application opens executable files? What application would you pick from the list? None. Exe files are <i>self-executing</i>.

The exe "association" must be fixed as described in the link TobiF provided.
