While in BIOS command mode, turned off - not possible to start anymore

By stonelli ·
Hi,
I have been working in the BIOS command mode (while starting up, I got to the selection menu, asking in which mode I want to start the OS - from there I pressed the key "c"(?) and got to a command prompt). At this stage I was detracted and left the computer - without executing any command. When I returned, the computer was shut off. There was no password or so.
Now, I am no more able to start it. When I press the power button, I just get a short noise (0.5 second) from the hard disk. That's all. I have pressed the power button for 10 sec, I have removed the power plug and accu for 20 sec, nothing.
Can anybody help me?
Many many thanks!

This sounds very much like a Hardware Problem

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to While in BIOS command mod ...

So you'll need to list your hardware so that someone here can attempt to help you out.

So the make & model of the computer if it's an off the shelf unit or if it's a White Box what's inside it.

But I would first look at the Power Supply as a possible culprit.

Technical details of the computer

Hi Col,

Many thanks - of course, I thought I had put in the tech details of it.
It's an IBM ThinkPad A22m 2628. That's all I've got.

The power supply seems to be fine. I can see the accu light is on when I plug the supply.

Any ideas?

Rejoiced too soon

by stonelli In reply to It works! Great, you're a ...

I was able to restart the computer with GhostBrowsers hint. Then I started it up and shut it down again.
But now, I have the same problem: it again does not start anymore - when I press the power button, I get a short noise of the floppy disk drive (in fact that's where the noise comes from) and the HD light flickers once.

I have tried all the previous stuff - no success. What is it? Any other idea of what I can try?
Sorry for bothering...

How old is the pc?

by GhostBrowser In reply to Rejoiced too soon

You may have to open it up
Try this first
Enter the bios setup sometimes called setup
Load the bios defaults

Not sure I understand...

I am not sure I understand what you suggest:
are you suggesting I should unscrew the case of the computer? And then what do I do?

And how can I enter the bios setup, when the computer is not starting anymore? How to load the bios defaults?

Sorry if I am dense...

The Warranty

by GhostBrowser In reply to How old is the pc?

Is what I wanted to know about?

You may need to remove the internal coin cell battery
Not the one that you recharge
Also will the laptop run off the power adaptor with out the battery pack
We will call the Rechargeable battery a battery pack
And the battery inside the laptop a coin cell
To avoid confusion
The computer stores info in an area, which is powered by the coin cell
We may need to reset that
Also I though you said you whir able to get it started
