while initialization device ios

By Casemaker ·
I receive this error on boot with a clients machine. She said she had been uninstalling all sorts of stuff and this error message popped up after reboot.
"While initializing device ios: error: an io subsytem driver failed to load. either a file in the .\iosubsys subdirectory is corrupt or the system is low on memory"

I looked through the bootlog.txt file and found these failed loads.
C:\windows\sytem\iosubsys\rmm.pdr
C:\windows\sytem\iosubsys\bigmem.drv
I tried to ren them in the iosubsys folder but I keep getting error message saying file not found. The iosubsys directory cannot be found either. I tried to remove the attributes with the attrib command but the directory is not found. I did a dir /s rmm.pdr and bigmem.drv and no files are found.
Any ideas on why these files and directory are not showing up?

If files have attributes of H,R,S, you need to use the "a" switch to see them.
So the command would be; "dir rmm.pdr /a /s"

The problem is that the folder is corrupt or damaged. To correct the problem boot to the command prompt using a startupdisk.
Change to the C: drive "cd C:" then type the following commands followed by enter.
cd\windows\system
ren iosubsys iosubold
Then reinstall Windows and the problem should be gone. By the way back up the data.
