Why can't I transfer bookmarks to Favorites file in IE8?

By bluenavy ·
My online bookmark storage company is going out of business. They sent me a notepad file with the extension .html[1] with my bookmarks in the file written in HTML code. They said my bookmarks could easily be imported into my IE8 Favorites file. I tried to import them but it didn't work. Just a few category names (e.g., sports, weather, etc.) imported but no bookmarks. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

How to transfer bookmarks to Favorites file in IE8...

1). Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Internet Explorer.

2). Click the Favorites button, click the arrow next to the Add to Favorites button, and then click Import and Export.

3). In the Import/Export Settings dialog box, click Import from a file, and then click Next.

4). Select the Favorites check box, and then click Next.

5). By default, Internet Explorer imports from a file called bookmark.htm in your Documents folder, but you can tell it to import favorites that are saved under another name. Click Browse and select a file, or type a location and file name to import, or click Next to accept the default.

6). Select the folder where you want to place the imported favorites, and then click Import.

7). Click Finish.

You could try Firefox and see if you can import them there..

Firefox:
http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-5.0.1&os=win&lang=en-GB

Go into TOOLS and see if you can import them there, if they do then you can then try and import them into IE8 or 9. If possible try out IE9 it might work better than IE8.
