Why can't I view an embeded Youtube link in powerpoint?

By MrLoganyc ·
This is driving me crazy. I have a powerpoint presentation (Office 2010) and I embedded a youtube video into it. I am following all of the steps, and it takes the embedded link. Except that when I try to run the slideshow I get an error telling me "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is locate on the internet, connect to the internet. If the file is located on a removable storage card insert the storage card" Thing is, I AM connected to the internet. I have looked at security settings, nothing seems out of wack. This WORKS on another user's PC without any discernable add-ons. Just not on mine, or the person who needs it to work on theirs.

Thank you. I know the procedure. That isn't the issue. Powerpoint uses WMP to play the files within PP. However when PP looks to WMP to play the file, it craps out saying that it can not access the file, even though I am on the internet. I am sure it is something I haven't checked off, but for the life of me I can' t figure out what.

The issue is that Windows Media Player cannot play YouTube clips

by robo_dev In reply to Why can't I view an embed ...

YouTube uses a Java/Flash player.

You need the 'YouTube Wizard' plug in for powerpoint:

Thank you, but it works on another PC without any plug ins, and I am on a company domain. Can't go adding plug ins all willy nilly lol. I will keep that in mind for my home pc though. Thank you.

The correct version of Flash Player was not installed. I had a 32bit version on a 64bit machine. Works fine for visiting websites, but WMA didn't understand it. Put in the 64bit version and Voila!!

How did you determine you were using 32bit version? Mine won't play either but my message says I need to use the latest version of flashplayer but no matter what version I use the message won't go away..
