Why does our shared network printers periodacally lose the connection?

By nbmprivat ·
I have 3 shared printers on a print server (win2003). Suddenly about a month ago user startet losing connection to the printers. The printer is shown in windows and the status is "ready". BUT the user can't print and the properties are not available. When i try to open the printer properties i get the message that the printer driver is not installed.

The only solution i found thus far is to delete the drivers either via cleanspl or regedit and re-add the printers.

This helps sometimes, but the problem comes back again periodically.

What might be the problem? :-/

Malware?

If you have working printer drivers that stop working, then something is getting changed or corrupted on the PC.

Is this happening on ALL users or just one?

In general, if there is no malware infection, then I would look at what other apps are on the PC, whether the registry has errors, or even if the hard drive is failing.

Only some users are affected. I updated the drivers on the server as well. I dont know what could corrupt the drivers on the clients. It is really strange.
