Wi-Fi verses Wireless Routers

By BirdieOnAWire ·
Can someone give me a good link to compare WI-FI verses a Router? I am looking for reasons a (individual) not a office would consider WI-FI...any ideas are welcome.

Well, let me give you a reason. It is a little before 1AM right now on a Saturday night. I am sitting on my couch in the living room, looking over new questions here at TR. Also, I am listening to streaming MP3s from a station (Digital Gunfire, http://128.103.6.141:8000). Outlook is open looking for e-mails. MSN Messenger is running in case any friends log on.
And the only wire plugged into my laptop is its power cord. I am connected to my cable modem via my 80211b wireless Netgear router.
I have it so it does not broadcast the SSID so wardrivers can't pick that up. I am running MAC filtering to allow only the MAC from my laptop to connect to it. And the 128-bit encryption is enabled to encrypt everthing, so if someone were to run Airsnort, they aren't getting anything!
I love the freedom of the Wifi here at home. I can bring my laptop into another room and show my wife something I saw on the Internet.
And I am not running anything secretative at home that I really am overly concerned about security.
Do I think that WiFi at the workplace is a good idea? No. Too dangerous. But for the home user, I think it is great, as long as you take some precautions.
