Wierd Print sharing problem

By southcalisponger ·
I'm having a very strange problem while trying to share a printer on a home network. Originally I had Windows Vista installed on my desktop pc, to which my HP PSC1610 printer is locally installed. My wife uses a Compaq notebook that, while my desktop pc was running Vista, was remotely able to print to the HP printer. Due to non-related issues, I switched the desktop PC back to Windows XP MCE 2005 and thats when this problem started. From my wifes laptop I can see my desktop PC and even see the printer, I can right click the printer and click "connect." I get a warning about installing drivers onto the laptop. The printer seems to be installed remotely on my wifes laptop because I can see it in control panel-printers. But when I try to print a test page, I get a message saying "Test page failed to print, launch troubleshooter?" My wife is connected wirelessly to the network, I am hardwired. I tried to install the printer on another hardwired machine on the network, but had the same exact thing happen. We are all on the same workgroup, I have windows firewall and norton firewall disabled. The wierdest thing is I can access all my shared media "pics, docs, vids" just fine from all other computers on the network. The issue seems to be isolated only to my printer. Any help would be much appreciated!
