And there shouldn’t be any Incompatibilities between the M’Board and the Video Card.

As odd as it sounds, if it will physically plug in, it will work

So, for example, a PCI-X card will work in a PCI slot (have a server at home setup like this).

Even though a whole part of the board contacts hang out past the shorter PCI connector, it works just fine. If it will fit, it will work.

There is a performance penalty since you’re running the card at different bus speed and bus width, but for most applications, you won’t notice the difference.

PCI-E works the same way. A PCI-E x16 board will work in a X-1 slot.

Although for PCI-E you need to either hack off the edge of the connector OR (preferably) buy the $10 Startech PCI-E X1 to X16 adapter. (I also have one of those)

And, of course, you can plug a PCI-E X1 card into a X-16 slot.

If your life depended on plugging PCI into PCi-E. there’s a $35 adapter for that.

Of course you cannot plug a PCI card into a PCI-e slot, without a hammer that is….and using the hammer will void your warranty 🙂
