Win 98 Backup Utility

By nhoek ·
Is it possible to install the Win98 Backup Utility on Win 95? And if so how is that done?

I don't see it as being seperate software on the CD.

It's not separate software. For instance in Win98 SE the msbackup.exe file is located in Cab 46 (go to www.rarsoft.com to download shareware-WinRAR- that allows you to view and extract CAB files)The problem is that the executable starts looking for who knows haw many .dll and other type files and those are sprinkled all over the place. I suppose that if every time the .exe file asked you for a file you searched it out on the cd and put it in the correct system file that eventually you MIGHT getthe program to run. Personally, I don't think it's worth the hassle.

Win95 also has a backup utility, and looks, feels, operates identical to win98 backup.

( the two may very well be interchangeable, tho I haven't tested it )

Insert the 95/98 Cd. Close the nasty startup screen.

Go to settings, crtlpanel, add-remove programs, windows setup, system tools, and check backup. Hit a couple of Ok's, yesses, etc, and msbackup should be installed.

found under programs, accessories, system tools.

Actually, Win98's backup is sort of a "lite" version of Seagate Backup, which I believe was bought out by Veritas. I'd check their website for info; they may have a version of their software available for Win95.
