WIN 98 & DEFAULT GATEWAY PROBLEMS

By methos04 ·
I am setting up 25 win98 clients on an nt 4.0 network. They get their IP addresses dynamically assigned using DHCP. That part, works fine. The clients are able to get onto the network and browse no problem. When I enter the default gateway on the workstations and do an ipconfig, the default gateway doesn't show up. It's like I've done nothing. Now, When I give the clients a static ip address, and do an ipconfig, then the default gatway shows up fine and they are able to cruise the internet. Is there something I'm misssing within DHCP? I would like to use DHCP and still retain the default gateway. Thanks!

The DHCP server needs to provide the default gateway. I could tell you how in Novell, but I'm sure there is a configuration page where you plug in your scope, reserved addresses, subnet(s) and Gateway info.

The first respondent is correct, Usually items such as DNS servers, WINS server, Default Gateway etc will be configured on a global scale and this is also done using DHCP Manager

Select the Scope, and select Global from the "DHCP Options" menu
Select "03 Router" and click Add
Click Value button
Click Edit Array at the bottom
Enter the IP address and click ADD, continue adding in case u have more than one gateway,

Click OK to close the Edit Array dialog

Click OK to exitHope this helps
Good luck
