Win 98 Missing Network Login Window

By racecarguy ·
I am working on a PC with Win98 SE and can't get it to display the Microsoft Networking login window as startup. It just loads straight to the desktop. If after startup, I select Start/LogOff, it will display the network logon window and allow logging onto the network (Windows NT) and access to resources. I have removed and re-installed the network settings, have the machine set to not use user profiles, removed all *.pwl files. I have it set to log onto Windows NT domain with the correct domain and have the primary logon as Client for Microsoft Networks.

I have several of the same model computer that work fine and am out of ideas.

My search found autologon in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Network\Real Mode Net, and it was set to 00. Other ideas? Thank you

If you right click Network Neighborhood you can choose in the Primary Network logon window which to use. Like the Client for Microsoft networks. This should bring up a login box.

Make backup of the registry by using scanreg.exe and try to delete AutoLogon key from the registry.
Restart computer.

Check your Primary Network Logon on the Configuration tab for your Network properties from the Control Panel. Make sure that it is set to Client for Microsoft Networks and that the Logon to Windows NT Domain are selected. Even if the correct information is filled in for the domain, if the Primary Logon isn't correct you won't automatically see the logon dialog box.
