WIN 98SE MSGRV32.DLL ERROR

By Morrisonk ·
Have a system which was built from the ground up and has WIN 98SE installed. Everytime the system is shut down we receive a "MSGRV32.DLL" error. So far it doesn't seam to have affected the systems perofrmance, however I know it shouldn't be there. Any advice would be appreciated, I am at a loss.

WIN 98SE MSGRV32.DLL ERROR

by wired_777 In reply to WIN 98SE MSGRV32.DLL ERRO ...

More Information about the system would be useful. What sound, video, network, and modem are on the system?
Usually the MSGSRV32 errors are caused by driver conflicts. The error message usaully also names another file. Whatever the 2nd file named belongs to is usually the source. One file that can cause it is ATTWAVE.DRV, which is a driver file for an AT&T modem.
If the sound card chipset is a C-Media CMI8330 sound chip, or the modem sound chip is C-Media CMI8330 sound chip get updated drivers for the sound card/modem.
The password files can also cause the problem. Deleting all the *.pwl files may sometimes fix this.
The system shutdown sounds can also be the source. Try setting the system sounds to none, then shutdown.
It can also be caused by a network. Try not logging on to the network. Then shutdown and see if it happens.

All else fails, get the most recent drivers for everything on your system.

Good Luck!

Msgsrv32.exe is a program (Windows 32-bit Message Server) that performs several background functions, including the following:

* Load installable Windows drivers at startup and unload them at shutdown.
* Run the shell program (usually Explorer.exe) and re-run the shell if it fails to respond.
* Mediate Plug and Play messages among various parts of the operating system.
* Coordinate automatic responses to Setup programs. This includes checking whether a Setup program has improperly overwritten Windows files, and optionally restoring the Windows versions of those files.
* Display the initial logon dialog box if networking is enabled.
* Play the system startup and shutdown sounds.

Some Common Errors and fixes are below

Msgsrv32 Errors with a Sound Blaster Card:
Windows may boot up just fine but any time you go to use a program or component which uses audio causes General Protection Faults (GPFs).

This may occur from loading the drivers from the CD after windowshas already detected
