Win XP Server Service on workstation

By hlovell ·
I have a Win XP computer that I'm trying to share a printer on. The Server service must be running to do so but it is not in the Services control panel for me to start. I am logged in as administrator. I have tried reinstalling the windows componentbut it installs the same way--without the Server service.

How do I get the Server service to show up?

Yes, if you want to have any shared folders or printers, then the Server service needs to be running (it handles sharing!).

Did you just try clicking Start -> Run, then type in NET START SERVER

Then try and share out the printer.

hope this helps

Thanks for the answer. No I had not tried that. I was able to find the solution shortly after posting this question. Discovered that "file and printer sharing" service was not installed.
