Win XP Status Bar

In Windows explorer how can I turn the status bar on permanently? I have to turn it on each time I have rebooted it wll not remember the setting. I am using Winxp prof 5.1 with sp1.

After enabling the status bar, use the File / Exit rather than the "X" to close Windows Explorer.

Some settings changes do not get saved unless you exit using the menu.

Tried this but it did not work - guess I'll use the SP - thanks for the suggestion tho :)

If Chas' suggestion doesn't work then think about installing sp2. This problem has been reported in the past and was supposedly fixed in the sp2 update.

Check out Maximum PC magazine Jan.,2005 issue page 68.
According to article upgrading to sp2 fixs the problem
