Win98 DUN broken!

By salafi ·
When I dial into ANY of the ISPs I use the DUN just sits there, no response. A new problem as they were ok for a year.
When I use dialer.exe it works find indicating that the modem is fine.
Pls. suggest Ccing your reply to my personal email address (musab@technologist.com)
TIA.

Hi
Make sure you have selected the right modem in you DUN (perhaps you upgraded drivers) and that you have the proper DNS numbers.

You may check the IP Address settings and DNS settins as suggested above. Also, I recently experienced the same problem, and it was because the "Log into network" box was checked. Once I unchecked it, the problem went away.

Try changing the number in your DUN to your voice number and launch it and see if it dials you. If that works, I would contact your ISP and verify your numbers and setup with them.

I worked for an internet company that used DUN. If I had a customer call in with this problem a full "nuke and pave" was done.

1. Make sure you have your Windows CD-Rom or you cab files.
2. Delete all of your connections out of DUN except for"Make New Connection"
3. Go into "Network" in control panel and make sure it is empty. If it asks you to restart your computer, say "No"
4. Open up "Add/Remove programs" in control panel, click on the windows setup tab, double click on communications, remove the check mark from Dial Up Networking.
5. Exit your way back to control panel, restart your computer.
6. Click on Add/remove programs, windows setup tab, communications and put the check mark back into dial up networking, exit back to control panel. It will copy some files.
7. Open up Network and make sure that "Dial Up Adapter" "Client For Microsoft Networks" and "TCP/IP" are the only things in Network. Close Network and restart computer.
8. Make a new connection for yourinternet access.
9.

Is the computer networked? Sometimes if the NetBeui box is checked in Server Types, and you are on a network, it will hang, check this setting if you are on a network.
