win98 problem

By kdreis ·
i am running win 98 and netscape 4.0 as my browser.
i just reloaded OS, netscape, and IE5.
my problem is: I can log on to the internet ok, but once I'm there and I try to surf the net, it gets hung up and i get timed out from the site. i may only go to one site and then I cant even go back to my home page. (Net
scape).
My question is: Is this a software or hardware problem. I have an intel 233mmx processor with 256Mb ram. CD-Rw drive CDrom drive scanner ant printer attached.

This is more than likely a software problem.Try a defrag on your harddrive, then run an antivirus package. You might have to possibly upgrade to netscape 5.0

Empty the cache files and temporary folder and update the java script files to make sure that you have the updated plugins for netscape.

You aren't having a resource problem. You problem sounds like your browser. You can try upgrading plugins after reinstalling or you can just start using IE5. If there isn't a need for you to be using netscape I would just start using IE5. There are a lot of people I know who have had serious problems with browsing the internet using netscape 4 and 5. These problem mysteriously dissappeared when they switched to IE5.
