Is it possible to configure a Windows 2000 Server domain without using the Active Directory Service?

Windows 2000 Domain Server

If you want to use W2k as Domain Controler you have to have Active Directory Service, there is no way you can have a Domain Controller in Windows 2000 plataform without Active Directory, what you can do is have another Windows NT 4.0 Server running as PDC and this Windows 2000 server make it as member server, that way you don't need Active Directory service install.
So, no, it is not possible.

Hope it helps,

@lberto
