Windows 2000 Print Driver

By rstrickland ·
I have an HP DeskJet 697C that is hooked to a Windows 2000 machine. I've set it to share with the lady in the next office, who is running NT Workstation 4.0. When I try to install the printer to her machine across the network, it says that no driveris loaded on the 2000 machine and asks if I want to load one locally. Well, guess what? The HP driver is a "Setup" type and there's no .INF in sight. Also, I figured I would load the NT 4.0 driver on the 2000 machine under "Additional Drivers." Well, after I "sucessfully" load the NT driver, it's not there the next time I click "Additional Drivers." Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can setup the printer as local printer on the NT4 machine. Then add a port that points to the printer on the 2k box and set the printert to print to that port.

The problem is solved. I added a "net use LPT3 /persistent:yes" switch on the NT4 machine and assigned the printer to LPT3. Thanks for the effort, anyway!

I had a similar prob adding addition drivers with a 4500 color.
If you haven't already...Try the driver at:
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/dj697c_swen.html
I had to insert the W2K CD first then point to the downloaded driver.
It's even worse adding '98 drivers. You need the W2K cd, the '98 cd and the new driver.
(you are checking the NT 4.0 or 2000 checkbox?)
