WINDOWS 98 2ND EDITION

By vicram ·
I am using windows 98 2nd edition. My system would not start even with the Start-up disk or the Win 98 2nd edition CD. It give a message the Himem.sys ; DBLBuffer.sys;IFShlp.sys: and Win.com are missing or corrupted .I changed the boot directory to CD when booting from the CD with no effect.

Could you assist.

Many thanks

Most W98 CDs are not bootable.

What you need is a W98 startup disk.

If you have access to a running W98 system, you can create 1 from control panel, add/remove programs, click on the startup disk tab.

Boot from the startup floppy,
then run setup with the W98 CD in the drive.
Missing files will be replaced.

I would then run a thourough virus scan on the system.
