Windows ME

The following articles should help. The first is an overview. The rest are specific to applications and/or hardware. There are a bunch of issues regarding this. You can also search the MS Knowledge Base at http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp?ln=en-us&sd=gn
for more information.

Just copy and past the "MSKB Q231666" below into your browser. It will take you straight to the KB articles.

I have run ME on COMPAQ, HP, and IBM machines with very little problems but I have a couple of friends who have reverted back to Win98 because of their problems.

I believe that ME is a good OS but it got caught in the middle of OS releases. Win98 was just becoming popular when ME was released without much fanfare. Win2k Pro was given center stage just a few months after ME was released and a lot of hardware manufacturers did not upgrade their driver software for ME, they just skipped it and upgraded for Win2k.

Bottom line is that chances are you have some kind of hardware driver that does not work well with the ME kernel. Try upgrading your drivers, but if that does not work then you may be forced to change hardware or the OS. I have been very successful with ME when all of the hardware was from the larger companies, i.e. HP, 3Com, IBM, etc.

My opinion is get rid of ME!

ME had caused me nothing but problems on every computer that I have seen that has it.

It has caused software problems where program s that say they are compatible do not work and tech support from the software companies can not do anything to fix it.

Connecting it to NT or Win2000 networks is nothing but trouble.

So I say it's time to get a real operating system.

There's a like to WinMe shutdown problems at the below url (incidentally shutdown problems may occur in any of the MS Windows versions -- there's a lot of hardware / software combinations out there):

Yes, I tend to agree with the previous posters. If you are not already using WinMe, don't purchase it. Win98SE is more stable than WinMe. And 2000 is more stable than either of them.
