Windows ME Blue Screen

By AJV04 ·
I had a problem with a Windows ME machine, while downloading music on this machine it shut down, upon rebooting I had the blue screen. I don't have the ERD, tried to startup in safe mode still had the blue screen (with pointer), tried step by step and when it came to msmouse.vxd it started over then the blue screen. Is it possible that the next driver was the culprit? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You could try starting again in safe mode & use system restore.
Whenever I get BSOD in WinME, which can be often at times, I just reboot till it goes away. Usually if I get one while downloading I've had to run Norton rescue disks to fix (boot sector or partition gets damaged), your very expossed with P2P apps.
I now use ERS9X for backup (rescues) it never fails.
Make sure your antivirus is up to date & run a firewall when using WinME for P2P downloading, it doesn't protect you completely but it helps, lot of bad people playing games out there.

Start up your pc with a win ME start disc and then start scanregw.exe from the windows directory of your harddisc (After booting from floppy you need to type c: (ENTER) and then cd windows (the name of your windows directory, could vary, too)).
This program tries to repair your registry, i tried that several times after my pc had the same problems like yours, normally this is happening after a very bad system crash when the registry is defective). With a little luck, you can reboot after thisprocedure and work normally.
