Windows NT & 95 and RAS

By AyJayCee ·
anyone got experience with dialling FROM an NT Workstation TO 95 PC's ???

I have to dial out to about 30 NT Servers and 10 95 'servers' every week, to download some data files.

In an attempt to automate this tedious task, I wrote a Batch file that called RAS from a CMD prompt. I run it after logging on as Administrator selecting my local PC as the domain. This works OK for the NT servers, but I get the following error for the 95 boxes :-

Remote Access error 691 -
Access denied because username and/or password is invalid on the domain.

and I have to manually dial from Windows RAS. Any ideas on this one - I've scanned both Technet & Microsoft's pages - no help.

In addition to this, there's usually one or two servers (NT and 95) each weekthat have one of the following errors :-

NETBEUI CP reported error 640: A NETBIOS error has occurred. Fail code 0xd.

If all you have to do is to download some data there are several ways:
Try to use a bitware soft or any other that came with your modems.
Most of them even the lite editions support scripting. You may load at startup at the win98 machines making them available to remote operators.
Since you get NETBUI errors you MUST skip through MS pages , but it seems like the remote access you get is for unothorized (porbabli automated logon you 've tried to use) logons. As for the passwords if you use acommunication program it will simplify your job
Hope helps

Thanks for the answer - unfortunately I've now moved on, so it's not my problem anymore!
