Windows NT hangs after install IDE drive

By thaitrinh ·
Hi,

I just recently added an IDE 8.4gig HD to aSCSI only system, and then using DRIVE
IMAGE software from Power Quest to copy the Windows NT from the SCSI drive to
the IDE drive. Everything copy OK from the SCSI HD over the IDE HD, now when I
reboot the system, I got the blue screen with the message:
"INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE".
Could some one let me know what I need to do next? and how to go about to correct this problem?

Thank you in advance for help

Thai

Sounds like NT is still looking for the driver for the SCSI controller. Boot up with the NT setup disks to have NT detect your IDE drive.

Sounds like you may have two issues. First The IDE NT partition must be made active. Boot with a DOS diskette and use fdisk to check.

Second, if your SCSI host adaptor does not have a BIOS or if BIOS is not enabled the Boot.ini file probably still describes the boot device as a SCSI disk.

scsi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Winnt="Windows NT Workstation Version 4.0"

when it should read:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Winnt="Windows NT Workstation Version 4.0"

Both examples assume NT loaded on the first partition of the first disk.

If the second case is indeed true, then all you have to do is disconnect the IDE drive and boot to the scsi drive. Edit the boot.ini file on the SCSI drive and add the line for the IDE drive, ahead of the line for the SCSI drive. Shutdown and reconnect your IDE drive.

When you reboot you should see two choices with the first choice being the IDE drive. Select the first choice and you should be booting off the IDE drive. You can thenedit the boot.ini fi

I had a similar incident like this happen to me. What I ended up doing was installing the SCSI Controller driver (ie. most recent copy from the Gateway web site). After the SCSI driver was laid down the NT Detect did see the Hard Drive ok. Hope thishelps. Jeff
