Windows NT Server or Novell NetWare?

By nbanyan ·
Novell vs. NT? In my search for information to decide which OS I want on my servers, I have found some white papers on this subject off of Microsofts web site but think they are a little biased towards the NT side. Does anyone know of any Novell, NT comparison that could help me that is not NT bias?

Windows NT Server or Novell NetWare?

I don't know of any sites that could give you a comparison, but I'll throw my 2 cents worth in, as I have experience with both NT and Netware. Microsofts white papers are always biased, so don't take them into much consideration. Netware is a good OS, it's very secure and quite stable, but it's a little harder to support. NT has pretty good security, is a little less stable than Netware in my experiences, but is easier to support especially like in most environments where people use Win98 as clients. My experiences with Netware are that Windows clients do work well with them, but there harder to troubleshoot problems. If I were you, I'd look into using Windows 2000 Servers instead of NT 4. Win2000 has a lot of nice new features like ActiveDirectory, a nice administration console, which makes administering 2000 a lot easier than NT 4. I hope this helps you out at least a little in finding your solution.
