You need to burn the copy CD at a lower speed

      by robo_dev ·

In reply to Windows Vista installtion hungs?

I’ve seen cases where a faulty drive can read blue-ish foil CDs but not a silver CD. Or cases where a single layer DVD can be read but not dual layer. Often burning a CD at a lower speed will work.

I’ve had machines that fail on copying a Windows install file, and I’ve had to swap the installation CD and press retry like five times to get it past a certain point.

When you burn it at lower speed, the bumps burned into the media have crisper edges, which allows an older/dirty/marginal CD drive have a better chance of reading it. Also, try different CD media, as sometimes the drive does better with one vs the other. some older CD drives seem to ONLY work with blue/silver media, not shiny silver CD-ROM media.

But I can not copy the DVD to other disk when I try to open nero and select copy DVD the nero disaper and I have to open it agian and it keep happning like this, this happan when the Vista disk is in DVD ROM, but if I put a diffrent cd or dvd disk to copy no problem. So it will not allow me to copy at first place.

Look at the RAM in this system

In reply to Windows Vista installtion hungs?

If you have more than 1 RAM Module that is the problem here your RAM is mismatched and suffering a Timing Issue.

All you need do is reduce the RAM to 1 Module and then load the system. After you have it loaded you can refit the RAM and it will work OK provided that it was working previously.

The Windows Installer is very susceptible to Timing Issues in the fitted RAM and will cause it to do this or report errors that certain files can not be found. That unfindable file can remain the same or change with different install attempts. 😉

Drove me crazy the first time I ran into this but it’s easily worked around. Incidentally the XP Installer is Buggy but the newer versions of Windows are even more finicky in relation to Timing Issues to the RAM and what makes this even worse is that in the cases that I’ve run into this, the OS has worked perfectly but it’s been impossible to install till you remove the Timing Issue between the RAM Modules.

      I have changed the RAM

      by sanwardak ·

In reply to Windows Vista installtion hungs?

      Hi
It has 1 GB RAM 512 each, so I know the ram is working fine. I have removed one and then tried it did not work then I change the other 512mb that did not work. I copy the disk on low speed that did not work too. Then I called emachine support and requested an recovery disk they said we no longer cary disk for this machine as this is 3 year old. So the last option will be for me to look for an iso of this vista home primuim emachine because I have the sticker. If incase I can not find exact iso would just vista home primuim will work with this key or not if I get this?

most probably it shouldl work, but from what you explain, and from my meager experience the problem your facing seems to be hardware, I had an issue like this where my the setup came and stopped in the middle, to see it was a corrupt hard disk, as soon as I replaced it, windows installed just fine. Again though if your CD seems glitchy, then I suppose you should try download an ISO, or if you still want to work with what you got, you could make an ISO of your CD, and mount it on a virtual drive and then see if you can copy it (this would possibly remove any hardware issues that might be preventing you to copy on Nero)

Do you have access to another install disc?

      by ultimitloozer ·

In reply to Windows Vista installtion hungs?

Or have you tried reading/copying the disc on another machine? If you see the same kind of problem on another box, the media is the problem. This should have been checked before everyone started going off on possible hardware problems.

      Why,…

      by wompai ·

In reply to Windows Vista installtion hungs?

… would you like to install Vista if you have XP too? Sure Vista looks better but XP runs much faster especially on a machine with 1GB of RAM. Also if you do want to run an OS that looks like that you should go for win7.

Get yourself a copy of the Ultimate Boot CD available free here

      http://sourceforge.net/projects/ubcd/

With this you can test the Hardware including the HDD with their Makers testing Utilities to prevent unnecessary waste of time in the future.
