Windows XP Home Ed, porn icon appeared

By Naleen ·
Hi there, when I restart my pc there's all of a sudden a little porn icon appearing in the right hand corner of the taskbar. If I right-click on it and click on uninstall it will go away but when I restart it's there again. Does that mean someone hacked into my PC and installing it? Also I've noticed that when I click on start, the "connect to" now has a PRPI and a XXXServer in it. I can't for certain say it wasn't there but it does sound a bit dodgy to me. Can I maybe just safely delete these connections to get rid of the porn Icon?
Hope there's someone that can help.

Hi,
The easiest way to get rid of this - or any other - spyware \ scumware is to use adaware. It's free, award winning and available at -

http://www.lavasoft.nu/software/adaware/

(remove any spaces from that url)

If you don't run any spyware detection software usually, then be ready for a big surprise the first time you run adaware, and get an idea of exactly how much invasive junk has been put on your pc thru your browser!

Hi
There are some sites when visited, will automatically place icons on the startup.
That does not mean that some one has hacked ur system.
U can remove that Icon by opening the Registry and editing some entries.

Run Regedit.exe

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run
and remove the entry that corresponds to that porn icon.
After removing the entry ,next time when u starts
ur computer ,porn icon will disappear

Give a search for the exe that runs when u click
on porn icon.Delete the exe.

1. Delete the connections
2. Delete the underlying file (right click, properties, location (or target or something like that)

Then there shall be no more popup, as long as you check the start -> programs -> startup.

I do not reccomend hackingthe registry, cause you can do more damage than good.

1) Go to Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs and make sure that nothing you do not need/want has been added to your installed programs. Remove them if they are there. Reboot and then recheack if the programs have added themselves back. If they have, you need to remove them again and then run Ad-Aware.

2) Go to http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/ and download and install Ad-Aware. Run it over your hdd and delete anything it finds. Then shutdown and test.

The programs have added themselves again. I will need to run the Ad-ware software. Thank you for all the answers.
