Windows2000 workstation and Novell 4.0

By lou.bonin ·
There seems to be a problem or at least a flaw when a windows 2000 workstation attempts to access a Novell 4.0 server for file and print services. Most of the time the Windows 2000 workstation appears to be scanning to find the server and does not necessarily cache it when it finds it for future access. These delays mount up over a day since all of our file and print are handled by Novell. Has anyone found a solution to this?

If you are not using the latest novell client for windows 2000 go to www.novell.com and download it. I am running version 4.8 and have had no problems with file and print services

We are using Novell client 4.8, but have the problem. There must be another setting or feature that we do not have or know about.

We still have the problem. The client is current but the NOvell server software is an old release. We will be upgrading soon.

Our suspicion is that when we upgrade to Novell 5.1 on our file and print servers, this problem with Windows 2000 on the work station will either deminish or go away. There seems to be an incompatibilty between Windows 2000 and the Novell 4.1 server software.
