wine for linux to get internet

By wolfyukai ·
I'm pretty much new to linux and yes i'm a microsoft freak sorta,I just know it like the back of my hand almost heh.So I download suse linux 9.0 and relize that my dsl provider doesnt support linux in any way. They just told me to read, experiment and play around with it,ok so i'v done that for a while and still cant quite get the internet through an external adsl modem,i'v tried the setup that linux has,and still no luck with getting internet.I noticed the internet explorers dont have setup dll links or anything so i went straight to modem:dsl:configuration stuff.Still nothing. So i found out about the wine emulator and i'm hoping that it will let me run the setup for the net.But like i read in the discussions that if the program is familiar with other programs on linux it wont;refuses to run anyways.Any helpful tips, tricks, walkthroughs just in case this doesnt work and its much more complicated then i thought?

If you can get router it might be better. All you have to do is connect port 1-4 on the router then connect the modem to the internet port on the router. Open up your web browser and enter the gateway to the router you purchase. Then configure the router and the router will keep you connected. I know for a fact that linksys router are compatible with linux.

What type of DSL Modem are you using? Is it one which connects to the pc via a network adapter? If yes, you just need to setup your network card correctly (if your dsl modem has dhcp turned on, set you network card to dhcp, if not, enter an ip address for the card and put the ip address of your dsl modem in your gateway section). After that you should have a running internet connection.
