Anytime I open a word document or microsoft word, I get a winword error."This programe has performed an illegal operation.
Winword caused an invalid page fault in module krnl386.exe.........."

How can I fix this. I have ran repair, reinstall andrenamed the normal.dot file so word can creat a new one but all effort so far was unsuccessful.

Open to valid and constructive solution only.

The Knowledge Base has a troubleshooting paper for these problems:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q168/1/98.ASP.
I would also search for and delete any temp files (~*.tmp) and search for more than one Normal.dot on the machine.
Good luck

Also try repairing Internet Explorer, since IE 5 can also lead to random Office errors.

Please follow the options: if you cannot fix it with solution 1, then use solution 2.
1) control panel --> remove IE --> repair it.
wait for re-boot
2) start button --> run --> sfc
3) check the available of RAM when you are using Winword. Sometimes it is lack of RAM or even hard disk spaces.
4) re-install winword
5) re-install windows
