WinXP 'services' out of control

By sharkalui ·
Ever since the latest bout of WinXP Hotfixes updated my fujitsu notebook (SP2), my "services" service runs out of control constantly sucking CPU time, causing overheating and constant fan running. What's up with this? Do I dump the security hotfixes or risk damage to my cpu?

I am going to assume that you are referring to service.exe in task manager above.

I would first roll back the install to clear the offending update.

Second, Identify the offending updated service in Admin Tools/Services by reviewing the actual update information at MS. If not critical to run Windows, set the service to manual in Admin Tools/Services. If critical, can you go without the update?

Both responses are in line with everything I've found out from other sources. I checked http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm
and subsequently found services.exe to be located where it's supposed to be. I have checked for virus and malware using NAV and Spy Sweeper. I will roll back the hotfixes one by one and evaluate.
