XPSP2 enables its built in firewall by default. Anyone running another firewall program (that’s you) needs to disable the Win XP firewall. SP2 should have placed a Security Settings icon in Control Panel. Open Security Settings and disable the firewall. That should allow you to run Norton Firewall without conflicts.

I tried the suggested info to no avail! I have the firewall from Win disabled. My Norton’s firewall must remain off for me to surf the net! The message: “Action cancelled” comes up each time. When the firewall is off I can access the net. PLEASE suggest another solution. Thank you.

Could be a setting in Norton Firewall. Will bow out and let someone familar with Norton answer. I’m a Zone Alarm user.

Neither Symantec nor M$ list any conflicts between SP2 and Norton Firewall, but both recommend disabling Windows firewall.

ahh norton. you gotta love them. i would hit there website for this one. sounds like you need to add configuration for your browser or your whole access database has corrupted. can you look around and see the rule in norton where it is allowing internet explorer access? perhaps you can delete that rule and nurse along the automatic creation of new rule that will allow browwer thru. i also have not seen this problem with xpsp2 and think it is red herring. zonealarm can get corrupted and lock out all access and to fix you delete a couple files and start over. hasn’t been a problem for several versions. you could be in for a time of it with nortons. you could try uninstalling norton and running the rnav2003 utility and maybe nis removal tool also then reinstalling or try ZoneAlarm. can you try netscape. how about updating internet explorer?

I believe that Norton was one of the apps that MS said would need an update to work correctly with SP2. Check on their website for an update for SP2 users. You don’t say what version you are using, so be sure to download the correct update.

At the very least un-install and re-install Norton as there is probably some corruption in its files.
Preferably, leave it un-installed and get a decent antivirus and firewall.
