Wired LAN and Wireless Internet Connection on same PC

By nazareth2000sg ·
Hi, I have a PC which is currently connected to a wired LAN (via Novell client 4.91). This PC has a static IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS assigned and is also configured to be a host server for FileZilla 0.9.23 beta.

The problem is, this PC will also need to connect to internet using a wifi dongle (GW-US54Mini2 USB wifi dongle)

If both the wired and wireless connection is enabled, the internet connection is lost. I believe it is the problem with the Wired LAN that is using a DNS and static IP adress.

How is it possible for this PC to connect to internet without disabling the Wired connection, bypassing the wired connection?

So, there is no way to have both connection active?

I am looking for a way to have both connection active. The WiFi for internet connection and the LAN for file transfer.

Is there a way to solve this? Please reply with answers not questions. Thanks!

If your computer had some sort of server software installed, perhaps it would be possible. However, you didn't tell us what OS you're running.

And, besides that, you mentioned running an FTP server. A wireless dongle isn't going to be able to perform up to server standards.

This is just a standard desktop PC and running on WinXP Pro SP2.

As for the FTP server, it should use the Wired LAN connection instead of the WiFi connection.

If I turned on both Wired and Wireless connection, the FTP server works fine but the internet connection (via wireless) is unable to connect to any websites.

The only way I can get the internet connection to work is to disable the Wired LAN connection.
