Wireless issues on XP

By gavinjinks ·
Hello,
I am having problems seeing and connecting to a wireless network on XP (SP2). I have re-installed the drivers for the wireless receiver on the computer, checked the signal strength is good enough in that area on my laptop, manually entered the SSID and password and I still do not see the network, tried connecting using Windows built in wireless utility and the software that came with it. Can any one help me?

yes I can see the network on other devices round the house, and I did see the network on the computer for about 5 mins, but it dropped off again. Its a USB stick that receives the signal, tried it in all the USB ports..... do you think its a duff USB receiver?

Are very directional it may not actually be getting a signal.

If it is working try plugging it into a USB Extension Lead and moving it around to see if it gets a signal now.

Sometimes because of the way that these work they can be in a strong signal area and not get a signal as the Aeriel is pointing the wrong way. As these use a wound aerial inside the USB Enclosure it may be in the wrong plane to receive the signal reliably.

Sometime just twisting the device though a 90 Degree angle will solve the problem but other times you have to move it away from the case to work.

such a simple issue

in the end.....
After thinking it was terribly complex within the settings, I tapped into the routers settings on my laptop and see that it was using a WEP. I changed this to a WPK key and XP found it straight away, obviously something to do with XP security issues?

Thanks for all your posts any way guys, massive help.
