wireless modem

By madrid15 ·
Dear friends,
I'd like to be able to connect to the internet away from home. Maybe a cellular
modem is the answer? If so please tell my which ones are the best for less. Or
there is other method?. Also my SIP is @home (cable) can I tap into my service?

Sorry to many questions but I got to know.

Thank you....Fabio Piraquive

The cell modem technology is out there and it does work. It doesn't work really well though. If you just need to send/recieve e-mail and browse the news a little you might find it okay for you. If you are wanting to do much more than this though it can be a real hassle. The best best is to use digital service. If you are using a cable modem ISP account at home you will need a seperate "standard" dial in account to connect this way. Now, using cellular to do this can get really expensive in the per minute charge so you might just be best off finding a regular phone jack when you are not at home. Get a dial up account with a large name, nationwide company so that there is a good chance you'll have a local number to access where ever you are. Good luck

The whole cellular/mobile situation is about to change radically but untill then the land line solution is the best. Be sure to pick an ISP who has convenient (local) access numbers where you want to travel. For international use a set of international adaptors is a must.

If you intend to use the internet just for simple Emails, when your on the road, the cellular fone as modem is the answer. As soon as you want to do some real surfing, then it is simply far too slow. Todays handys run at 9600 Baud. With that speed you'd wait ages and have a huge telefone bill in the end. Things are going to change, but not just yet. Your best option is to buy a modem and use that instead. You can probably use your same isp, but you'll probably need to find out if they have thesame fone number for everywhere, otherwise you should try to get a list of their numbers in advance and then select the best one to use depending on where you are.
